Bob Sheppard's obituary, Sunday Times Herald, Norristown, PA
At Bob's request, no service will be held. Instead he wanted everyone to take a moment to remember him and get on with their lives. Pop donated his body to science.
He was a graduate of Norristown High School (1945), Ursinus College, a World War II veteran serving in Japan, a gardener at the Widener / Dixon Estate Erdenheim Farms, an organist at many local churches including Cold Point Baptist Church and St. Marks in Erdenheim, a member and choral director of the Whitemarsh Militiamen Barbershop Group, a caretaker of the Warren Ingersol Estate in Spring House, a wonderful musician on most any instrument, a loving father and a great friend.
Robert M. Sheppard will be missed by all who worked with him, knew him, listened to his music, and all who loved him.

Growing up, there was always music in the air around the holidays (and all year round) being surrounded by talented artists and musicians.
Whether at Granny Fulmer's in Cold Point, Plymouth Meeting PA - or in our Sheppard home in the music room back on the farm (Erdenheim Farms in Lafayette Hill, Whitemarsh Township PA) - or up at Uncle John and Aunt Skip's in Lancaster PA - someone was always playing the piano (Uncle John, Dad, or one of us).
Sure there was plenty of singing hymns and songs and harmonizing gathered around the piano - and at times there was even a string ensemble ... but the best for me was hearing Pop on the piano alone and playing for himself - simple and heartfelt (my Father's and his brother's musical and artistic legacy - living by the heart).
This music reminds me of those times listening to Dad play for hours - LINK.
Picture above is of a VERY young Bob Sheppard on the left, his brother John Sheppard (THE artist) playing, and my Mother's brother Roy Fulmer with 3 women sitting around the piano at Granny Fulmer's in Cold Point.

"Holy Hills Of Home"
by Le Sheppard / Shane O' Sheppard
You may travel all around the world ... New York to Timbuctoo
Or back again the other way ... from Cape Town to Peru
Sure you'll never find the beauty .... I care not where you roam
To be found in storm or sunshine ... on the happy Hills of Home
You can scale the Himalayas ... where Everest cleaves the sky
Or roam the mountain ranges ... until the day you die
You may cross the rugged Rockies ... or the Alaskans up to Nome
But you miss the quiet beauty of the Holy Hills of Home
There's a charm about your native land ... more than tongue can tell
A strange and sweet sensation ... that grips you like a spell
I hold them in high honor ... and why I write this poem
Who dream of days they rambled ... over the humble Hills of Home
I care not what their race may be ... nor the color of their skin
Whether born to wealth or poverty ... to sorrow or to sin
I know like me they're longing ... no matter where they roam
For the sacred scenes of old childhood ... on the Holy Hills of Home

How do I write what I can't say
It's not that easy
You can dry my tears or make me smile
What can I do for you
I love you
There I said it
Such a friend you are
You're there for me
And I you
All I'm saying'
Will you always ... Be my friend
As hard as I try
It doesn't work
The words don't come out right
I take my pen
And try again
To put in words how
I need you
Please promise
Never to go away
You are my friend
Now to the end
Forever
And ever
You and I
...
You make me feel
Like I can do
Most anything
I hope I do
The same for you
You'll always
Yes always
Be a part of me
You'll be my friend ... You are my friend
he didn't know what to say
he even had to turn away
but when the words came out
this is what I heard
when I go take my violin
and play a song for me
when I go take my violin
and play one just for me
what would I do with a violin
I don't know how to play a thing
but I thanked him anyway
what else was I to say
he said it wasn't worth a dime
I said I hope it's never mine
he shrugged his head ....
turned to me and said
yeah but when I go
take my violin
and play a song for me
when I go take my violin
and play one just for me
what should I play
just make it a melody
make it as sweet sweet as you and me
he didn't know what to say
he even had to turn away
but when the words came out
my father said to me
when I go take my violin and
play me a melody
when I go take my violin and
play one just for me

"More than any time in recent history, America's destiny is not of our own choosing.
We did not seek nor did we provoke an assault on our freedom and our way of life.
We did not expect nor did we invite a confrontation with evil. Yet the true measure of
a people's strength is how they rise to master that moment when it does arrive -
The streets of heaven are too crowded with angels, but every time we think we have
measured our capacity to meet a challenge, we look up and we're reminded that that
capacity may well be limitless. This is a time for American heroes. We will do what is hard.
We will achieve what is great. This is a time for American heroes and we reach for the stars"
